What is Linda Vista Photography?
Linda Vista a Professional Portrait Studio. We make portraits, we do not take pictures.
Indoors or outdoors; we use available light, plus multiple light sources to sculpt your face with highlights and shadow detail. We know light. We understand the relationship between quality of light, specular light, and light ratios in photography. We know when to use natural light, and when to add a little extra light to enhance a portrait. We understand the different needs for our clients; whether it be for wedding photography, high school senior photography, family portraits, etc.
We know how to properly position our portrait clients so that they look relaxed, natural, and at their very best. We know when to utilize little differences and details. Examples include dropping your shoulder, bending your wrist, curling your fingers, and turning or tilting your head position. Simple steps and insider knowledge such as this can take an ordinary portrait to a higher level. We know the difference between masculine and feminine portrait poses, and how to do these poses properly.
We have always used professional cameras, lighting and light modifiers when taking portrait photography. Over the years Linda Vista Photography team members have trained extensively and incorporated the latest photo enhancing software and practices. We are able to add selective coloring, soften skin, remove blemishes, blend red blotchy skin, remove skin shine, remove stray hairs, etc.
What is a portrait?
Renaissance painters gave us the technique for turning a 2 dimensional medium (paper or canvas) into 3 dimensions, by adding highlights and shadow detail to their subjects. This lighting technique added depth to a vase, an apple, or a person. Professional Portrait Photographers (like us) use the same techniques by either adding, subtracting, or manipulating the light to get the same type of highlights and shadow details.
Different Styles
Is there anything wrong with photographers who shoot by available light only? Absolutely not. Some of the best photography we have seen was shot by photographers that only use available light. However, these photographers know what they are looking for in natural light, and knew how to and not to use it.
Flash on camera photography is a simple style that only adds flat lighting to a subject. This flat lighting removes the third dimension (depth) on your subject, and you end up with flat pictures, rather than 3 dimensional portraits.
Our Style
We like to describe our photography style as a combination of, "Old School" photography and portrait techniques with "New School" technology. We emphasize using multiple light sources if and whenever possible. For example: in a wedding you will not always be able to use multiple lights in all situations. You will notice in our portraits that the highlights and shadow detail can and will be very subtle, yet also very pronounced.
